JANUARY KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for January 2018:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 3,710 head (or 0.6%) for the month ending January 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 24,580 head (or 4.2%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter decreased by 1,850 head (or 5.6%) for the month ending January 2018 compared with the previous month and decreased by 1,430 head (or 4.4%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 17,370 head (or 2.7%) for the month ending January 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 92,390 head (or 17.2%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter decreased by 450 head for the month ending January 2018 compared with the previous month and decreased by 30,140 head (or 1.6%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter decreased by 690 head (or 0.2%) for the month ending January 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 19,310 head (or 4.5%) year-on-year.
