FEBRUARY KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the February 2012 merchandise imports were $17,909m, a decrease of $1,240m (6%) on the January 2012 merchandise imports of $19,149m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms fell $1,345m (7%) between January 2012 and February 2012. In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits fell $949m (5%) from $20,745m in January 2012 to $19,796m in February 2012. Consumption goods fell $395m (7%), driven by the consumption goods n.e.s. component, down $257m (14%). Intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $307m (3%) and capital goods fell $257m (5%). Non-monetary gold rose $10m (2%).
REVISIONS
- Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
