ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
In 2004/5 the ABS conducted the fourth in the series of National Health Surveys (NHS), designed to obtain national benchmark information on a range of health related issues, and to enable trends in health to be monitored over time.
The 2004/5 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey (NATSIHS) was conducted in parallel with the NHS. This is the most extensive survey to date of the health of Indigenous Australians conducted by the ABS. Previous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health surveys were conducted as components of the NHS rather than separate surveys.
While the NHS and NATSIHS were separate surveys, they in part shared a common survey instrument, and were designed to produce a common core data set, to enable comparisons of Indigenous and non-Indigenous key health indicators.
This product contains a copy of the questionnaires used in both surveys, together with associated prompt cards, and a listing of all output data items available from both surveys. This package is intended to assist users of the data in making the best use of results from both surveys, and should be used in conjunction with the Users' Guide publications.
