This publication contains estimates of the quantity of grain stored in grain storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders in Australia as at 31 January 2003. Stocks of grain held in grain storage facilities at 31 December 2002 is also available for comparison.


KEY POINTS

The quantity of grain held in storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders reduced by 6.3%, down from 17,296,600 tonnes recorded at 31 December 2002 to 16,213,700 tonnes at 31 January 2003. The quantity of wheat held in storage facilities fell by a similar percentage, 6.2%, from 12,189,000 tonnes at 31 December 2002 to 11,434,100 tonnes at 31 January 2003 while barley stocks reduced by 8.6% from 3,470,200 tonnes at 31 December 2002 to 3,170,100 tonnes at 31 January 2003. Oats stocks rose slightly from 127,900 tonnes to 137,400 tonnes at 31 January 2003 a rise of 7.4%.
