JANUARY KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the January 2013 merchandise imports were $18,962m, an increase of $533m (3%) on the revised December 2012 merchandise imports of $18,429m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $444m (2%) between December 2012 and January 2013.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits rose $187m (1%) from $20,433m in December 2012 to $20,620m in January 2013. Capital goods rose $299m (6%), driven by telecommunications equipment up $257m (52%), and consumption goods rose $166m (3%). Intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $272m (3%) and non-monetary gold fell $6m (2%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
