AUGUST KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the August 2012 merchandise imports were $21,652m, an increase of $1,170m (6%) on the July 2012 merchandise imports of $20,482m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $96m between July and August 2012. In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits fell $373m (2%) from $21,617m in July 2012 to $21,244m in August 2012. Intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $360m (4%), driven by the fuels and lubricants component, down $451m (13%). Consumption goods rose $107m (2%) and capital goods rose $10m. Non–monetary gold fell $130m (24%).
REVISIONS
- Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
