Trends in livestock slaughtered and meat produced

Cattle

Compared to October 2019:

  • Cattle slaughtered increased 1.2% to 744,900 head
  • Beef production increased 1.2% to 210,300 tonnes

Compared to November 2018:
  • Cattle slaughtered increased 10.3%
  • Beef production increased 8.9%

Calves

Compared to October 2019:
  • Calves slaughtered increased 0.2% to 46,700 head
  • Veal production increased 1.1% to 2,400 tonnes

Compared to November 2018:
  • Calves slaughtered increased 8.9%
  • Veal production increased 31.2%

Sheep

Compared to October 2019:
  • Sheep slaughtered increased 2.4% to 792,700 head
  • Mutton production increased 2.5% to 19,800 tonnes

Compared to November 2018:
  • Sheep slaughtered decreased 2.3%
  • Mutton production increased 3.3%

Lamb

Compared to October 2019:
  • Lambs slaughtered increased 1.1% to 1.74 million head
  • Lamb production increased 1.0% to 40,800 tonnes

Compared to November 2018:
  • Lambs slaughtered decreased 4.2%
  • Lamb production increased 0.5%

Pigs

Compared to October 2019:
  • Pigs slaughtered remained steady at 421,000 head
  • Pork production decreased 0.1% to 32,400 tonnes

Compared to November 2018:
  • Pigs slaughtered decreased 6.3%
  • Pork production decreased 8.0%
