At 30 September 2017, total assets of Australian securitisers were $125.2b, up $0.7b (0.5%) on 30 June 2017.
During the September quarter 2017, the rise in total assets was primarily due to an increase in residential mortgage assets (up $0.9b, 0.9%) and by an increase in cash and deposits (up $0.3b, 8.4%).
Liabilities of Securitisers
At 30 September 2017, total liabilities of Australian securitisers were $125.2b, up $0.7b (0.5%) on 30 June 2017. The increase in total liabilities was primarily due to an increase in short term asset backed securities issued in Australia (up $1.4b, 41.3%) and an increase in long term asset backed securities issued in Australia (up $0.9b, 0.8%). This was offset by a notable decrease in loans and placements (down $1.6b, 17.0%).
At 30 September 2017, asset backed securities issued in Australia as a proportion of total liabilities increased to 89.5%, up 1.3 percentage points on the June quarter 2017 proportion of 88.2%. Asset backed securities issued overseas as a proportion of total liabilities decreased to 2.7%, down 0.3 percentage points on the June quarter 2017 proportion of 3.0%.
