APRIL KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for April 2017:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased by 7,100 head or 1.2% for April 2017 when compared with March 2017 and there was a year-on-year decrease of 68,900 head or 10.8%.
  • The number of calves slaughtered in April 2017 decreased by 2.2% month-on-month and compared to this period last year decreased by 19,800 head or 41.2%.
  • Sheep slaughter in April 2017 decreased by 2,100 head or 0.4% compared with March 2017 and was down 95,000 head or 15.2% year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughters decreased by 56,900 head or 3.1% for April 2017. Compared with April 2016, slaughters decreased by 168,500 head or 8.7%.
  • Pig slaughter remained steady during the month, when compared to March 2017 and continued to increase year on year with slaughters up 7,400 head or 1.8% on this period last year.
