ANALYSIS - TOTAL RETAIL TOTAL RETAIL - QUARTERLY In volume terms, the seasonally adjusted estimate for the September quarter 2010 rose 0.7% following a rise of 1.0% in the June quarter 2010 and a rise of 0.1% in the March quarter 2010. In the September quarter 2010, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (6.1%) and Other retailing (2.8%). The seasonally adjusted estimate fell in volume terms for Clothing, footwear and other personal accessory retailing (-1.5%), Household goods retailing (-0.5%), Food retailing (-0.4%) and Department stores (-0.2%) in the September quarter 2010. The Implicit Price Deflator for Australian retail turnover rose 0.7% in seasonally adjusted terms in the September quarter 2010. TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE The following states and territories rose in trend terms in September 2010: Victoria (0.7%), New South Wales (0.4%), Queensland (0.3%) and Western Australia (0.2%). The Northern Territory (0.0%) remained unchanged. Tasmania (-0.3%), South Australia (-0.1%), and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.1%) fell in trend terms in September 2010. The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in September 2010: Victoria (0.8%), Western Australia (1.0%), South Australia (0.2%), and the Northern Territory (0.8%). Queensland (0.0%) remained unchanged. New South Wales (-0.2%), Tasmania (-0.4%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.2%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in September 2010. In the September quarter 2010, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Victoria (1.7%), New South Wales (0.9%), Queensland (0.7%) and the Northern Territory (0.1%). The seasonally adjusted estimate fell in volume terms for South Australia (-0.9%), Tasmania (-1.9%), the Australian Capital Territory (-1.0%) and Western Australia (-0.1%) in the September quarter 2010.
