Statistical Geography: Volume 2 - Census Geographic Areas, Australia

Volume 2 provides information on standard census output areas not covered by the ASGC.

Many of the areas described in this volume are derived by aggregating the Collection Districts (CDs) that best fit the original area. These CD-derived areas do not necessarily match exactly with the original area. An example of this is CD-derived Commonwealth Electoral Divisions. These areas are constructed using the CDs that best match the electorates defined by the Australian Electoral Commission.

The areas covered by this volume are:
  • Postal Area ;
  • Commonwealth Electoral Division;
  • State Electoral Division;
  • Suburb (where applicable);
  • Journey to Work Study Area;
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission Region;
  • Indigenous Location (approximately 80+ Indigenous persons); and
  • Indigenous Area (approximately 280+ Indigenous persons)

Statistical Geography: Volume 3 - Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) Urban Centres/Localities, 1996 Census Edition

Volume 3 provides information on the Urban Centres and Localities (UC/Ls) that are defined in accordance with the ASGC, using the person counts collected in the census.
