Barley is grown predominantly west of the Great Dividing Range, extending along the centre of NSW from the Northern Statistical Division (SD) down to the Murray SD.

In 2004-05, production was 1.8 million tonnes.

In 2004-05, 42% of all barley produced in NSW came from the Northern SD (741,000 tonnes). This was followed by the North Western SD with 293,000 tonnes.
