Personal Income of Migrants microdata is an output of the Personal Income Tax and Migrants Integrated Dataset (PITMID) Project. The 2009-10 and 2010-11 PITMID integrates Personal Income Tax data sourced from the Australian Taxation Office with permanent migrant settlement records from the Department of Social Services Settlement Database (SDB) using statistical techniques.

Information about this project is included on the Project Register of Data Integration Projects on the National Statistical Service (NSS) website. A detailed quality assessment is available in the Research Paper: Feasibility Study of Linking Migrant Settlement Records to Personal Income Tax Data (cat. no. 1351.0.55.051). For summary statistics from the 2009-10 and 2010-11 PITMID refer to Personal Income of Migrants, Australia, Experimental (cat. no. 3418.0).

The microdata product includes person level and job level data. Data include migrants' entry conditions (e.g. visa subclass, primary or secondary applicant), key demographic variables (e.g. age, sex, country of birth, year of arrival) to facilitate a cross sectional analysis of personal income characteristics (e.g. employee income, own unincorporated business income, investment income, foreign income etc.). This data enables a detailed insight into the financial situation of permanent migrants after settlement in Australia.

The microdata file is a unit record file released via the ABS DataLab, constructed in a manner not likely to enable the identification of a particular person or organisation. For more information about the ABS DataLab refer to the Microdata Entry page.
