RELEASE OF POST ENUMERATION SURVEY INFORMATION PAPER

The Census Post Enumeration Survey (PES) is a short survey run after each Census to estimate the number of people missed by the Census or counted more than once. Net undercount, which is the difference between the number of people who should have been counted and the number of people who were, is an important input for the five-yearly rebasing of the Estimated Resident Population. It is also used to evaluate the effectiveness of Census coverage and related strategies, particularly for important populations, such as Indigenous persons.

Information Paper: Measuring Net Undercount in the 2011 Population Census, 2011 (cat. no. 2940.0.55.001) was released on 6 July 2011. This information paper presents detailed information on the methodology that is being used in the 2011 PES and important changes that have been made since the 2006 survey. Results from the PES will be released in June 2012.
