DECEMBER KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the December 2009 merchandise imports were $17,662m, an increase of $113m (1%) on the revised November 2009 merchandise imports of $17,549m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods imports (debits) on a balance of payments basis increased by $1,156m (7%) in seasonally adjusted terms from $16,265m in November 2009 to $17,421m in December 2009. Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $760m (11%) with the fuels and lubricants component up $535m (26%), capital goods rose $246m (7%), non-monetary gold rose $224m (51%) while consumption goods fell $74m (1%).
