In 2012-13:
- The main crop residue management practices undertaken by agricultural businesses in Australia were retaining standing stubble, accounting for 36% of total area of crop residue managed; retaining stubble (where low cut stubble is left on ground including for mulching purposes), accounting for 21%; and removal of crop residue by grazing accounting for 17%.
- Nationally the number of businesses managing crop residue remained steady.
