KEY FINDINGS

NUMBER OF ROBBERY VICTIMS CONTINUES TO FALL
  • The number of Robbery victims in Australia decreased for the fifth consecutive year, falling by 9% (927 victims) between 2014 and 2015 to 8,966 victims.
  • The decrease in the number of Robbery victims was largest in New South Wales (24% or 920 victims), followed by South Australia (23% or 170 victims).
  • The number of Robbery victims has decreased by 39% since the beginning of the time series in 2010.

INCREASE IN PROPERTY CRIME
  • The number of victims of all three property crime offence categories increased in Australia during 2015. Unlawful entry with intent increased by 1% (2,637 victims), Motor vehicle theft by 3% (1,432 victims) and Other theft by 5% (23,364 victims).
  • Increases in all three property crime offence categories occurred in Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.
  • The number of Other theft victims increased in all states and territories except for New South Wales, where there was a 2% decrease (2,847 victims).


EXPERIMENTAL DATA: RISE IN FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE-RELATED SEXUAL ASSAULT AGAINST FEMALES
  • The number of victims of Family and Domestic Violence (FDV)-related Sexual assault increased by 7% (503 victims) in Australia between 2014 and 2015 to 7,464 victims.
  • The number of female victims of FDV-related Sexual assault increased by 8% (480 victims) between 2014 and 2015. In contrast, the number of male FDV-related Sexual assault victims was stable over the same time period (1,138 in 2014 compared to 1,148 in 2015).
  • Females comprised 85% of all victims of FDV-related Sexual assault, with those aged 0-19 years making up more than half of these victims (59% or 3,730 victims).
