The state's quarterly population growth rate was well above the Australian's rate of 0.5% and highest among states and territories, with Queensland (up 0.6%) as the next highest. In the March quarter 2008, Western Australia recorded a natural increase of 5,415 persons (8,344 births less 2,929 deaths) while net overseas migration (up 11,426 persons) and net interstate migration (up 1,428 persons) also added to the state's population.
