Birthplace and Indigenous Status

Some 71.3% (221,688) of persons employed in cultural occupations were born in Australia. Another 12.9% (40,154) of those were employed in cultural occupations were born in the main English speaking countries and 14.8% (46,120) were from non main English speaking countries. In contrast, for all employed persons, 71.1% were born in Australia, 10.5% were born in the main English speaking countries and 17.2% were born in non main English speaking countries. (Table 6)

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people made up 1.2% of all persons employed in cultural occupations for their main job.

Relatively high numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are employed as Park Rangers (735) and Painters (Visual Arts) (359). (Table 6)
