DESCRIPTION
The collection gathers information on staff involved in the provision of higher education at in-scope Higher Education Providers (HEPs), and provides data on the number, full-time equivalence, classification, and functions of staff.

HEPs covered by the provisions of the Higher Education Support Act 2003.

The collection of higher education statistics in the current format commenced in 1987. In 1989 a number of significant changes to the collection were made, resulting from the introduction of HECS. Since that time DEST has reviewed the nature of information required and the timing of provision of the data.
