GROUP 33 – SPORTS AND PHYSICAL RECREATION SERVICES

Group 33 Sports and physical recreation services consists of units mainly engaged in providing sporting or physical recreation services to participants or entertainment for spectators. Sports and physical recreation includes games or leisure activities mainly involving physical exertion and/or hand-eye coordination. This consists of the following classes:

      331 Sports and physical recreation administrative organisations;
      332 Sports and physical recreation clubs, teams and sports professionals;
      333 Outdoor recreation guiding operations; and
      334 Sports and physical recreation support services.


331 SPORTS AND PHYSICAL RECREATION ADMINISTRATIVE ORGANISATIONS

Definition

This class consists of units mainly engaged in the administration and/or control of sports or physical recreation disciplines and/or groups of clubs. These units may be responsible for the policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of an individual sporting or physical recreation discipline, or may distribute funding to affiliated member organisations.


Exclusions / References

Units mainly engaged in operating individual sporting clubs or teams are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities or Class 332 Sports and physical recreation clubs, teams and sports professionals as appropriate.

332 SPORTS AND PHYSICAL RECREATION CLUBS, TEAMS AND SPORTS PROFESSIONALS

Definition

This class consists of units mainly engaged in operating individual sports or physical recreation clubs or teams which predominantly provide opportunities to participants or entertainment for spectators, and which do not operate their own facilities. This class also includes freelance sports professionals.


Exclusions / References

Units mainly engaged in:

(a) operating racing clubs (thoroughbred, harness or greyhound) and providing riding or driving services for racing are included in Class 311 Horse and dog racing;

(b) operating sporting clubs or teams with facilities are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities;

(c) operating their own sports grounds or other facilities are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities;

(d) providing administration and/or control of sports or physical recreation disciplines and/or groups of clubs are included in Class 331 Sports and physical recreation administrative organisations;

(e) operating hospitality clubs are included in Class 433 Hospitality clubs; and

(f) operating board, card or strategy game clubs are included in Class 451 Interest clubs and groups.

333 OUTDOOR RECREATION GUIDING OPERATIONS

Definition

This class consists of units mainly engaged in guiding clients through outdoor adventure or recreation activities. The primary purpose of these units is to guide participants safely through an experience in which the participant plays a physically active role. It is not their purpose to teach clients the skills necessary for independent participation.

Units mainly engaged in:

(a) operating sports grounds or other facilities are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities;

(b) operating sporting clubs or teams are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities or Class 332 Sports and physical recreation clubs, teams and sports professionals;

(c) teaching or training clients in order that they may participate independently in an activity are included in Class 334 Sports and physical recreation support services;

(d) operating four wheel drive tours with driver provided by the tour operator are included in Class 442 Scenic and sightseeing services;

(e) operating reef viewing tours are included in Class 442 Scenic and sightseeing services; and

(f) operating youth development groups are included in Class 451 Interest clubs and groups.

334 SPORTS AND PHYSICAL RECREATION SUPPORT SERVICES

Definition

This class consists of units mainly engaged in providing support services to persons and organisations involved in sports and physical recreation, including horse and dog racing. Support services include sports and physical recreation education and coaching services, personal fitness training services, racing animal transportation services, and testing of sporting participants for the use of banned substances.


Exclusions / References

Units mainly engaged in:

(a) horse and dog training for racing purposes are included in Class 311 Horse and dog racing;

(b) operating training facilities which are a main avenue to regular involvement in a sport or physical recreation activity (e.g. martial arts training facility) are included in Class 322 Other sports and physical recreation venues, grounds and facilities;

(c) providing guided outdoor adventure experiences are included in Class 333 Outdoor recreation guiding operations;

(d) manufacturing, wholesaling and retailing sports and physical recreation goods are included in Group 34 Sports and physical recreation goods manufacturing and sales;

(e) sports ticket agency operation are included in Class 461 Ticketing agencies;

(f) representing groups or individuals in the sports and physical recreation sector through a business, professional or labour association are included in Class 464 Culture and leisure business, professional and labour associations;

(g) the provision of manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing or support services to industries in more than one division of the Classification are included in Group 46 Culture and leisure support services or Group 48 Other culture and leisure goods manufacturing and sales; and

(h) providing farrier services or veterinary services – whether or not related to sports or physical recreation – are out of scope of the classification.
