This paper outlines revisions to international statistical standards, as set out in the System of National Accounts 1993 Revision 1 and Balance of Payments Manual & International Investment Position, Sixth Edition (BPM6). It describes, in broad terms, the effects that implementing the revisions will have on Australia's national accounts, balance of payments and related statistics. The international standards that the ABS will not be implementing are identified. The paper also outlines ABS plans to implement the new standards in 2009 including when more detailed information will be made available.
