AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND STANDARD CLASSIFICATION OF OCCUPATIONS (ANZSCO)

A new classification of occupations, the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) (cat. no. 1220.0) is being developed by the ABS, Statistics New Zealand and the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. ANZSCO will replace the existing Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO), Second Edition (cat. no. 1220.0).

An information paper ANZSCO - Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (cat. no. 1221.0) was released in late September and included the final structure of ANZSCO. The complete classification (including definitions for all categories) is expected to be released in July 2006. ANZSCO will be implemented in ABS collections from 2006 onwards.
