SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
COMMERCIAL FINANCE The trend series for the value of total commercial finance commitments decreased 1.7% in December 2008 compared with November 2008. This was due to falls in revolving credit commitments (down 2.5%) and fixed lending commitments (down 1.2%). The seasonally adjusted series for the value of total commercial finance commitments increased 1.8% in December 2008 compared with November 2008. This was due to a rise in revolving credit commitments (up 40.4%), which was largely offset by a fall in fixed lending commitments (down 13.0%). The value of purchases of dwellings by individuals for rent or resale (trend) decreased 0.2% in December 2008, after a revised decrease of 0.1% in November 2008. The seasonally adjusted series roes 5.8% in December 2008. LEASE FINANCE The value of lease finance commitments (trend) decreased 0.4% in December 2008 and the seasonally adjusted series increased 5.1%.
