Publications released July to September 2000

i) Cultural Funding, Australia, 1998-99 (ABS Cat. No. 4183.0) ($16.50) was released on 3 August. It provides estimates of public funding of arts and cultural activities for the three levels of government in Australia. A more comprehensive report, Cultural Funding in Australia - Three Tiers of Government 1998-1999, a CMC SWG publication, is due for release is November.
** DATA HIGHLIGHTS - Commonwealth funding of arts and cultural activities was similar in 1998-99 to the level of funding in 1997-98. State and Territory governments reported absolute increases in the value of contributions (up 15%) between 1997-98 and 1998-99. In contrast, local government funding fell by 3% for the same period.

ii) Use of the Internet by Householders, Australia, May 2000 (ABS Cat. no. 8147.0) ($17.50) was released on 25 August. It contains information on individual and household access to the Internet at home, work and other locations. The publication also presents statistics on electronic commerce activities of adults.
** DATA HIGHLIGHTS - By May 2000, 54% of households in Australia (3.8 million) had access to a computer at home. The number of households with access to the Internet at home was 2.3 million, or 33% of all households. Approximately 47% of households with Internet access used the Internet on a daily basis.
