The state's quarterly population growth was the highest across the nation, ahead of Queensland (up 0.53%) and well above the national increase of 0.35%. In the December quarter 2006, Western Australia recorded a natural increase of 4,115 persons (7,070 births less 2,955 deaths), while net overseas migration (up 6,042 persons) and net interstate migration (up 932 persons) also added to the state's population.
