This data cube presents counts of accommodation establishments and capacity in Australia as at March 2004.

The accommodation types covered are:

  • hotels, motels and guest houses and serviced apartments with 5 or more rooms;
  • holiday flats, units and houses which are operated by owners, managers or real estate agents who have sole letting rights to at least 5 flats, units or houses available for short-term letting;
  • caravan parks with powered sites and/or cabins;
  • visitor hostels.

The counts presented are a combination of data from AAA Tourism Pty Ltd and the ABS Survey of Tourist Accommodation population frame.

These counts are not comparable with previously released counts due to differences in data sources.
