OVERVIEW

In 2010-11, the estimate of cultural expenditure by the Tasmanian Government rose 3% to $114.3m which was 4% of the total cultural expenditure by state and territory governments. Recurrent expenses accounted for 95% of Tasmanian Government cultural expenditure. The estimate of per person expenditure by the Tasmanian Government was $224.30. (Tables 4 and 10)

In 2010-11, the estimate of expenditure of Tasmanian Government funds for Heritage activities increased 1% to $100.6m. Funds for Environmental heritage made up more than half (55%) of all Tasmanian Government Heritage expenditure. Expenditure on Libraries remained the same at $21.0m in both 2010-11 and 2009-10.

In 2010-11, the estimate of expenditure by the Tasmanian Government for Arts activities rose 22% to $13.8m. Approximately 36% of Tasmanian Government expenditure on Arts was directed to the Other arts category. The categories with the next highest expenditure were Music performance and Visual arts and crafts each accounting for 21% of total Arts expenditure in 2010-11.
