NSW has the highest number of sheep and lambs of any state. At 30 June 2004, the number of sheep and lambs in New South Wales was 35.2 million.

At 30 June 2004, most sheep and lambs in NSW were found in the Central West Statistical Division (6.5 million) followed by the South Eastern Statistical Division (6.1 million).
