Apples are the principal pome fruit grown in NSW. They are mainly grown in the Central West and Murrumbidgee Statistical Divisions.
In 2003-04, NSW farmers produced 47,700 tonnes of apples, behind Victoria (84,100 tonnes), and ahead of Western Australia (37,700 tonnes).
The five most common varieties of apples grown in NSW were:
- Block Red Delicious (11,700 tonnes)
- Striped Red Delicious (8,000 tonnes)
- Granny Smith (7,400 tonnes)
- Gala (6,000 tonnes)
- Cripps Pink (Pink Lady TM) (4,600 tonnes)

(a) In 1997 and 2001, number of trees and yield are based on trees six years and over while equivalent data for 2002 to 2004 are based on trees four years and over. The production figure used to calculate yield in 1997 and 2001 includes any contribution by trees under six years while that for 2002 to 2004 includes any contribution by trees under four years. In most cases this contribution is relatively insignificant, but in some instances it can distort yield figures.

In 2003-04, 46% of all apples produced in NSW came from the Central West Statistical Division (22,000 tonnes). This was closely followed by the Murrumbidgee Statistical Division with 19,200 tonnes.
