ENDOCRINE, NUTRITIONAL AND METABOLIC DISEASES (E00-E90)

Endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases (E00-E90) in 2011 accounted for 4.1% of all registered deaths. Total deaths due to these underlying causes have increased gradually over the last ten years, from 4,666 in 2002 to 6,077 in 2011. The proportion of all deaths due to these causes has also increased over the same period ranging from 3.5% in 2002 to 4.1% in 2011. The median age at death from these causes was 81.8 years, which was comparable to the median age of 81.5 years for all deaths in 2011.

Diabetes (E10-E14) was the underlying cause of death for 4,209 people, or 2.9% of all deaths. The proportion of all deaths represented by this cause increased from 2.5% (3,329) in 2002 to 2.9% (4,209) in 2011.

Obesity (E66) accounted for a total of 281 deaths in 2011. The overall median age at death due to obesity as the underlying cause was 63.2 years, 18.3 years lower than the median age for all deaths. The median age at death was slightly lower for males (62.5 years) than females (63.3 years).
