Purpose
To provide policy makers and energy consumers with an insight into energy use and production at the Australian and State level, on which to base their medium and long term planning.

Description
This survey is the basis for a biennial energy supply and demand publication which contains historical and forecast information.

The major input into ABARE's biennial energy projections is the information collected in the biennial fuel and electricity survey supplemented with information from energy suppliers and producers. The report is a profile of the Australian energy sector, past present and future. The future is a set of projections of energy consumption and production to the year 2009-10. The past is an historical perspective of trends in energy markets since the early to mid-1970s. All energy types, all states, and all main sectoral divisions of the Australian energy market are covered.

Data are collected by mail questionnaire to 3,000 respondents.
