PREFACE
The aim of the Framework for Australian Tourism Statistics is to provide guidelines which will encourage consistency and compatibility in the collection and analysis of tourism statistics in Australia. As such, it is intended to provide a common language for all users and collectors of tourism statistics. The use of a common language in all collections will increase the value of the available data by enabling compatibility and comparability of results from all tourism statistical collections.
The Framework incorporates Australian and international statistical standards. It is in line with international tourism concepts and definitions developed by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO). It also reflects Australian tourism statistical standards developed by the Bureau of Tourism Research (BTR) in 1996 and 1997.
This version of the Framework was released on 23 September 2003. It supersedes editions published in 1991, 1997 and 1999.
FEEDBACK
We encourage agencies to use the Framework to guide their data collection and analysis. The development of the Framework is an ongoing process that is expected to evolve alongside tourism statistical standards. We welcome comments about its usefulness.
