During the 2006-07 financial year, Western Australian farmers spent $341 million controlling weeds, which is more than pests ($103 million) and land and soil problems ($82 million). In 2006-07, 21.6% of Western Australian agricultural businesses reported using water for irrigation, with the total area irrigated being 53,000 hectares.
