REAL ESTATE SERVICES The Real estate services industry covers businesses mainly engaged in valuing, purchasing, selling (by auction or private treaty), managing or renting real estate on behalf of other people. At 30 June 2003, there were 88 real estate service businesses in Tasmania operating in 126 locations and employing 957 people. Tasmania has the highest proportion of franchised businesses to the total Tasmanian real estate businesses, 53 businesses were franchised and 35 non franchised. In 2002-03 total wage and salary expenses for businesses in the real estate industry was $42.5m, while total income was $90.1m. REAL ESTATE AGENTS(a) - 2002-03

ACCOUNTING SERVICES At the end of June 2002, there were 129 accounting practices in Tasmania employing 1,207 people. Of the 1,207 people employed, 685 (56.8%) were practising accountants while 522 (43.2%) were other staff. Total wages and salaries paid by accounting practices for 2001-02 was $41.8m, while total income generated was $92.7m. ACCOUNTING PRACTICES(a) - 2001-02
