|Count of Dependent Students (15-24) Temporarily Absent (CDSAF)This variable counts the number of dependent students, aged 15-24 years, that were reported as temporarily absent from the family on Census Night.|
In the 2011 Census, data on the relationships temporarily absent people have with others in the same dwelling is mainly derived from question 53 on the Census Household Form, which asks for each person’s relationship to Person 1 on the form.
Count of Dependent Students (15-24) Temporarily Absent (CDSAF) is applicable to families which include dependent students aged 15-24 years, that is 14.8% of all families. People are counted as temporarily absent from their family when they are included in response to question 53 on the Census Household Form. Of the applicable families, 6.4% reported that there were dependent students temporarily absent from the dwelling on Census Night.
CDSAF, like all other persons absent Census variables, should be used with caution. Previous studies on Census data have shown that people can be omitted from the persons temporarily absent section of the form simply because they are not present when the form is being filled out (for both family and group households), and also due to there being space for only three persons to be listed as temporarily absent when there may in fact be four or more people absent.
For general information on the quality of Census data on relationships see the data quality statement for Relationship in Household (RLHP).
More information on CDSAF is available in the 2011 Census Dictionary (cat. no. 2901.0).
Question 53 as it appeared on the 2011 Census Household FormData for this variable is mainly derived from question 53 on the Census Household Form.
