Proficiency in Spoken English/Language
Proficiency in Spoken English/Language (ENGLP)This variable (released with the mnemonic ENGP01 in previous Censuses) combines responses from questions 16 and 17 on the Census Household Form. These questions ask if a person speaks a language other than English at home and, if so, how well they speak English. It varies from the Proficiency in Spoken English (ENGP) variable as it includes persons who speak English only. The non-response rate for this variable (including those who did not respond to the question asking if a person spoke a language other than English) was 5.0%. More information is available from the 2011 Census non-response quality statement. For more information, see the data quality statements for Proficiency in Spoken English (ENGP) and Language Spoken at Home (LANP). More information on ENGLP is available in the 2011 Census Dictionary (cat. no. 2901.0).
