ABS announces 2016 Census Independent Assurance Panel Members3 November 2016 | CO/109The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today announced the panel members of the Independent Assurance Panel on 2016 Census of Population and Housing data. The Panel is comprised of eminent Australian and international statisticians, academics, state government representatives and members of the Australian Statistics Advisory Council (ASAC). The Panel will undertake an independent review of 2016 Census data to provide extra assurance and transparency of Census data quality. This review will be undertaken alongside the ABS’ existing quality assurance processes. The Terms of Reference will be agreed upon when the Panel sits for the first time in mid-November. The focus for the Panel is expected to include a review of the quality approaches developed by the ABS for the Census and Post Enumeration Survey, along with an examination of the metrics from the Census on quality aspects such as response rates, person non-response, item non-responses rates, and a review of the over and undercount analysis.
