Activity 1: In Footy Mode
|
In this activity, participants:
- Begin to develop an understanding of data and its uses
- Work together to conduct a simple investigation; conducting a small data collection activity (survey), producing a graph, and analysing the information to answer the questions
- Explore and identify the statistical concept mode within the dataset to answer the investigation question
In this activity, the facilitator:
Evaluates whether the participants are able to:
- Construct a graph with awareness of the two variables: AFL team and number of supporters
- Identify and describe the information represented by the graph
- Interpret the concept of mode to identify the most popularly supported team in the group

Activity 2: Keeping Score
|
In this activity, participants:
- Begin to develop initial understandings and skills for data collection as they participate in a handball drill to record their performance using templates of tables and graphs
- Begin to demonstrate basic statistical understandings by describing data and the recording of data in simple tables and graphs
- Begin to use data representations to interpret and share their findings
In this activity, the facilitator:
Evaluates whether the participants are able to:
- Accurately record scores for each football drill activity in table
- Create a simple graph from their personal tables with facilitator guidance
- Describe their skills performance from the collected data using graphs as evidence

Activity 3: Team Colours
|
In this activity, participants:
- Begin to develop an understanding of data and its uses
- Begin to develop and use statistical terms/concepts
- Work together to conduct a simple investigation:
- Collating and organising data – drawing a list and graph
- Building a graph – constructing and naming x- and y- axis using different variables
- Interpreting the information to answer simple investigation questions
- Explore and identify the statistical concept mode within the data to answer investigation questions
In this activity, the facilitator:
Evaluates whether the participants:
- Understand statistical concepts
- Appropriately using key statistical terms when describing the data
- Correctly use the graph axes to position each data item
- Are able to answer the investigation questions in reference to the graph

Activity 4: A Graphic Sports Report
|
In this activity, participants:
- Produce a graph to solve investigation questions; justifying the choice of graph type
- Record data in tables, and construct graphs to investigate their footy skills
- Demonstrate their ability to accurately read and describe the data in tables and graphs
In this activity, the facilitator:
Evaluates whether the participants are able to:
- Recall and apply their previous learning to choose a type of graph to best present data in answer to an investigation question
- Construct tables and graphs from recorded data to answer investigation questions
- Communicate data as statistical evidence to answer their investigation questions using their group graphs

Activity 5: Player Review
|
In this activity, participants:
- Develop skills for using data recorded in a table format to build a graph
- Extend their statistical capabilities by constructing a graph to visually represent data that has been collected over time
- Begin to develop capabilities for using data as evidence to make comparisons and analyse performance over time
- Practise describing data through discussion while justifying interpretations using the key statistical language
In this activity, the facilitator:
Evaluates whether the participants are able to:
- Construct a graph accurately labelling axes and represent all observations from the provided data
- Describe the changes in the performance of the players and make comparisons between players
- Demonstrate an understanding of statistical concepts through their use of statistical language in discussion

Activity 6: If the AFL were only 100 players
|
In this activity, participants:
- Begin to develop an understanding of the relationship between population and sample, in the context of a simple investigation
- Work together to calculate percentages for a sample and the population
- Begin to apply the data collected about the sample to estimate values for the population
In this activity, the facilitator:
Evaluates whether the participants are able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the difference and relationship between a population and sample
- Calculate percentages using the data
- Use percentage calculation to explore estimates for the population
