What we do
The Australian Bureau of Statistics is Australia’s national statistical agency. Our mission is to assist and encourage informed decision-making, research and discussion within governments and the community, by leading a high-quality, objective and responsive national statistical service.
You can find more information about the role of the ABS and the work we do on the About Us page.
Accessing statistics
You can access ABS data free-of-charge from this website.
We also maintain a National Information and Referral Service to assist members of the public to access our data.
More complex data requests can make use of the Customised Data Consultancy which provides expert help on a cost-recovery basis.
Subscribing to ABS publications
You can subscribe to the ABS email notification service to receive free updates on selected topics.
When your nominated products are released you will be notified by an email message which will link to our website.
This will enable you to download publications shortly after 11:30 am on their day of release. You may alter your subscription details or unsubscribe to the service at any time.
For more information, see the email notification service page.
The ABS also offers RSS feeds to enable you to view the latest statistical information released on the ABS website. ABS headlines are updated once a day at 11:30 am Canberra time.
There are two separate feeds you can subscribe to:
• ABS Product Releases
• ABS National Statistical Headlines.
For more information, see the RSS page.
Citing ABS sources
Please ensure when reporting on ABS data that you attribute the Australian Bureau of Statistics (or the ABS) as the source.
