Sourcing the 2021 Census Temporary Workforce

Once every five years the ABS recruits to fill approximately 30,000 short term Census roles.

Learning from international experience, the ABS is approaching the market to engage a service provider to help recruit this large casual workforce for the 2021 Census of Population and Housing.

The successful provider will be required to source large volumes of staff from a diverse range of geographical locations and cultural backgrounds across Australia.

The ABS is looking for an organisation that can bring contemporary recruitment knowledge and sourcing experience to the 2021 Census operations, and deliver efficiencies, value for money and a better overall outcome for the 2021 Census and taxpayers.

The privacy of data collected by the ABS is our key priority.

Only highly trained ABS officers, including field and data operations staff who have strict obligations under legislation, will have access to the personal and statistical information collected in the Census.

The ABS is also considering options for approaching the market at a later stage for businesses to provide training and payroll services for these roles.

In 2021, the ABS want to deliver the most efficient and easy Census for the public, and provide quality and safe experiences for people employed to support our extensive Census operations across the country. The ABS believes that using a service provider to assist with some aspects of workforce management, including recruiting, will support these aims.
