Census Collectors pool wages for disabled skiers

Some of our Census Collectors in the Jindabyne region have decided to generously donate the pay that they receive as collectors during our up coming census to the Disabled Wintersports Australia (DWA) - a self-help sporting organisation founded by Australia's first Paralympic skier Ron Finneran and Canadian instructor Bruce Abel.

The purpose of DWA is to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy winter sports and, equally importantly, to enjoy the magnificent environment that is Australia's Snowy Mountains with fellow skiers.

Currently five special Census Collectors in the Jindabyne area are generously donating their wages. These collectors have been recruited from local motels and resorts to help enumerate visitors staying in the area on Census night.

According to DWA Executive Director, Ron Finneran the Census donation will go towards purchasing specialised ski equipment.

"These donations are needed to purchase specialised ski equipment for the disabled, which will be distributed to ski resorts next season," said Ron.

"We are deeply indebted to those Census Collectors who are donating their wages to Disabled Wintersports Australia."

The ABS and all that are involved would like to thank all our collectors and a special thanks to those that have made such a wonderful donation.
