Broad Description
Collects qualitative data on households assessed forms of savings, reasons for savings, main forms of debt, financial situation of household and view on the best place to place new savings. Data can be broken down by sex, age, household income, occupation, educational attainment, voting intentions, household size, number of children in household.

Detailed Description
Population
1200 householders per survey
Superannuation Data Items

  • Householders are asked what are their main form of savings (prompts are given).
  • Those who nominate superannuation are asked whether it is an employer based scheme, personal superannuation or a do-it-yourself scheme.
  • Householders are asked to nominate what they believe is the best form of savings (prompts are given including for superannuation).
  • Householders are asked for their main reasons for saving (prompts are given including retirement).
  • Other information on debt is also collected.

Report contains two years data. Data has been collected since May 1993. The full series is available on request.

Available by state and metro/non metro. Geographic breakdowns are not presented in the standard report but can be undertaken as a special request.
