LABOUR COSTS

In percentage terms, the increase in wages and salaries paid by the electricity supply industry in 2005-06 exceeded its increase in employment. Wages and salaries rose by 23% ($719m) in 2005-06, following an 18% increase in the previous year. The broader measure of selected labour costs moved similarly (up 24% and 16% respectively).


Wages and salaries per person employed increased by 13%, from $80,000 to $90,700, during 2005-06.


Over the period from 2001-02 to 2005-06, the electricity supply industry's wages and salaries have increased in current price terms by 57%, and by 31% on a per person employed basis. Selected labour costs increased 58% and 33% respectively over the same period.
