There were an estimated 32,463 farms in Victoria at 30 June 2004.

Beef cattle farming was the most common farming activity with 7,810 farms in Victoria mainly engaged in this activity.

Dairy cattle farming and sheep farming were the next most common activities with just over 30% of Victorian farms mainly engaged in one of these types of operations.
