SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the September 2012 merchandise imports were $19,294m, a decrease of $2,340m (11%) on the August 2012 merchandise imports of $21,634m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms fell $1,680m (8%) between August and September 2012.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits fell $612m (3%) from $21,215m in August 2012 to $20,603m in September 2012. Capital goods fell $465m (8%) driven by the machinery and industrial equipment component, down $215m (11%). Consumption goods fell $323m (6%) and intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $105m (1%). Non–monetary gold rose $281m (70%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
