CHANGES IN THIS AND FORTHCOMING ISSUES

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

CHANGE TO METHOD FOR CONFIDENTIALISING EXPORTS DATA

From this issue the method used to confidentialise some data for exports of goods has changed. Data that have the confidentiality restrictions 'No commodity details' or 'No value details' have been aggregated into a single confidential commodity code. Prior to June 2013, data subject to these restrictions were added back to the relevant state total and country total, i.e., these totals show the correct level of trade. From June 2013 these confidential restrictions are not added back, instead the confidential data are published as 'No country details' in the country totals and 'State not available for publication' in the state totals. Therefore, country and state totals from June 2013 may understate the actual amount of trade in each country/state as they only capture the trade in commodities without a 'No commodity details' or 'No value details' restriction. This change is necessary to ensure the confidentiality of data. Refer to paragraphs 26 and 27 of the Explanatory Notes for more details about these restrictions.

This change will impact statistics in publication tables 14 and 15, and statistics in time series spreadsheet tables 14a, 15a, and 36a–36j of this publication.

CHANGES IN FORTHCOMING ISSUES

CHANGES TO COUNTRY GROUPINGS

From the July 2013 issue, the composition of the European Union country grouping will be updated to include Croatia. The label for the 'European Union 27' will be amended to 'European Union 28'. These changes will impact on statistics in publication table 14 and time series spreadsheet tables 14a, 14b, 36a – 36j and 37a – 37i in this publication and on time series spreadsheet tables 2 and 6 of International Merchandise Imports, Australia (cat. no. 5439.0). The new composition will apply to the whole time series. Time series IDs will remain the same.

AMENDMENT TO SCHEDULE 4 OF CUSTOMS TARIFF

On 1 July 2013 the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service introduced an amendment to Schedule 4 of the Customs Tariff Act. In Item number 55, Treatment code 462 will be replaced by Treatment code 755. This change is a result of the existing cheese and curd quota scheme ceasing on 30 June 2013 and being replaced by a new scheme.

This change will apply to import statistics from July 2013 and will impact on statistics available on request.
