INTERNATIONAL MERCHANDISE TRADE

EXPORTS AND IMPORTS

South Australia's value of exports on a recorded trade basis in January 2009 was $592m. This represents a decrease of 34.0% from December 2008 ($897m) and a decrease of 9.3% from January 2008 ($653m). The value of Australian merchandise exports for January 2009 was $17,873m, a 33.2% increase from the previous year ($13,422m in January 2008).

The value of South Australian merchandise imports decreased to $516m in January 2009 from $630m in January 2008, a decrease of 18.1%. The value of Australian merchandise imports for January 2009 was $17,261m, a 2.3% increase from January 2008 ($16,875m).
