BUILDING APPROVALS

In April 2008, the total number of dwelling units approved in South Australia (in trend terms) was 1,053. Nationally, the total number of dwelling units approved (in trend terms) was 13,000.

The trend estimate for the number of private sector houses approved in South Australia in April 2008 was 832.

In the year ended April 2008, the largest increase in dwelling units approved in South Australia was recorded for the Eyre Statistical Division (SD) (32.1%). This follows a 34.1% fall in the number of dwelling units approved in the Eyre SD in the year ending April 2007. The Murray Lands SD recorded the largest decrease in dwelling units approved in the year ended April 2008 (down 35.5%), although a 49.6% increase was recorded in the year ended April 2007.

CONSTRUCTION WORK DONE

In the December quarter 2007, the total value of building work done (in trend terms) in South Australia was $907.0m, an increase of 1.1% from the previous quarter. Engineering work done in this quarter was $521.0m, a decrease of 5.4% from the September quarter 2007 ($550.8m).
