OFFENDERS
For the 2007-08 reference period, police in South Australia proceeded against 34,500 offenders. This equated to a rate of 2,454 offenders per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over in South Australia.
There were almost four times as many male offenders (79% or 27,236 males) as female offenders (21% or 7,131 females). Males had an offender rate of 3,943 offenders per 100,000 males aged 10 years and over, compared to a rate of 997 female offenders per 100,000 females aged 10 years and over.
The median age of all female offenders and male offenders was the same (both 26 years).
As illustrated by the following graph, males had higher offender rates for all age groups compared to females. The age group with the highest offender rate for both sexes was the 15-19 year age group.
